I am Present to Blue Cotton Sheets

We lie in a world of blue cotton sheets
a world of softly kissed noses and fingertips -
a world of whispered laughs
flowing through the warm air of shared breath,
with trilling cardinals taking wing
from our hearts
and fluttering through our lips.

Often I can let moments pass me by - moments that as a child I used to live for. Moments of throwing the bedsheets over my head and enjoying the warmth of my own cozy world of fabric. Moments shared with those who were my safety and comfort. Moments of enjoying shared giggles and hearing heartbeats within an embrace. I do not know when I became too busy for moments, but I am grateful my child reminds me how important they are.
